At 1545 hrs, Company 17 was dispatched to the 1300 blk Stanley Ave Ext for a brush fire. Special Unit 17 and Engine 17-1 responded on the initial with 4 personnel. While responding, communications advised of a brush fire in the area with no acreage amount given. Special Unit 17 arrived on scene with approx a 100 x 100 area involved and moving quickly. DC 17 established Command 17 and requested a brush and tanker task force. The fire moved quickly to a near by barn and the assignment was upgraded to the barn fire assignment. Engine 17-2 and Truck 17 then responded with an additional 5 personnel. The fire was stopped before making it to the barn. A shift in wind then spread fire quickly to an adjacent field and additional resources were then requested. All operations were completed in about 4 hours. In all, 3 Brush Task Forces, 3 Tanker Task Forces, and a 2nd alarm barn fire assignment was requested and responded. Units from Adams, Cumberland, Franklin, and Washington county all responded. Great work by all personnel resulted in saving 3 structures including 2 houses and a barn.
